It’s funny how Americans are getting class-conscious all of the sudden. After spending all of Reagan, Bush Sr, Clinton, and Bush Jr (that’s just 7 presidential administrations, a mere 28 years!) deluding themselves into thinking that everyone was a member of the upper-middle class, finally they realize that actually, they’re getting shafted. As soon as the consumer credit dries up and people can’t keep living on 21% interest and unfounded hope, apparently they suddenly understand that class has never been abolished in America. They find that it’s more difficult than they expected to go out and earn $500,000 to pay off their mortgage, and that living beyond their means isn’t nearly as glamorous as it once seemed. I wonder if they feel stupid for being so blind for so long… Enjoy your class war, folks!

“There are two ideas of government. There are those who believe that if you just legislate to make the well-to-do prosperous, that their prosperity will leak through on those below. The Democratic idea has been that if you legislate to make the masses prosperous their prosperity will find its way up and through every class that rests upon it”

Cross of Gold Speech, William Jennings Bryan, 1896.

I had always thought that trickle-down economics was invented by Reagan. Guess not!

Those democrats of 115 years ago… Now those were some democrats!

Actually, the least funny part of this is “We’re Gay, Get Over It.” I find the idea of an article entitled “Marine vs Bear” to be much more interesting…

motherjones:

“We’re Gay. Get Over It.”

One week from today, the military will officially be done with Don’t Ask Don’t Tell. Judging from the upcoming Marine Corps Times cover story, it looks like the military’s ready.
